I’m Robin Shannon.

I’m an award-winning journalist who gravitates towards quirky, unconventional stories.

I have worked extensively in public radio in both New York City and New Jersey as a Host, Reporter and Director of News and Public Affairs. I have helped listeners start their days as the host of NPR’s Morning Edition at local stations in Tinton Falls and Trenton, reported award-winning stories for public radio stations across the tristate area and handled public affairs for both WBJB in New Jersey and WFUV in New York City. I have also taught journalism at both the Undergraduate and Graduate level.

I am a proud and dedicated member of the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists, the Alliance for Women in Media and the Public Media Journalists Association.

My Story

The Beginning

I got my start in radio at WBJB-FM in Tinton Falls, New Jersey as the local NPR host of Morning Edition. I also reported daily news stories and produced news and public affairs features.

The NPR Affiliates

After nearly a decade there, I went to NJN Public Radio in Trenton where I continued to host Morning Edition and report my own stories. I eventually landed at WFUV-FM in New York City as the Director of both News and Public Affairs & Student Training.

Moving Into the Future

There are so many different ways to be a journalist, and I’ve made it a point to both learn and teach the tenets of multimedia journalism. I utilize my foundation of diligent reporting, thoughtful interviewing and fastidious fact-checking regardless of what medium I’m working in. I helped WFUV roll out their first daily news podcast, “What’s What” and continue to explore the many ways we can tell important stories across broadcast, print, radio and television.

Fordham Conversations explored violence against Asians in America, especially women and the elderly, who were spat on, knocked down, robbed and attacked during and after the Covid-19 pandemic. Exclusive Interviews

Stephen McKinley Henderson

To call him an actor is an understatement. You’ve seen him on the big screen in “Lincoln,” and “Tower Heist” to name a few. He’s been on the small screen in HBO’s “The Newsroom” and on “Law & Order.” He’s most notable for his stage work, which includes multiple August Wilson plays. Robin Shannon sat down with him after he was welcomed by Fordham University’s theatre program as the newest Denzel Washington Endowed Chair in Theatre back in 2016.

Recent Work

Black history is not just about trauma and pain. Part of the experience is honoring the resilience of Black people in the U.S. and their ability to demonstrate love and find joy – something that’s often expressed through music.
